Is coffee making your thyroid worse? We on love our coffee. Don't we? that burst of aroma that kick off caffeine, it's a great way to wake up the body and have that black coffee just before you go out or go workout or it's just your perfect energy booster. But if you are suffering from thyroid disorders or if you have hypothyroidism, I'm sorry guys. Your coffee, might not be the best thing for you. 

If your caffeine from coffee is exceeding 200 milligrams a day, then it can negatively impact your thyroid health. Also your adrenal function, your sleep quality. It might keep you acidic messing up your intestinal health. Too much caffeine from coffee can lead to a stress response and prompt to release of cortisol, the stress hormone, while increasing the blood sugar levels. 

Coffee affects your sleep quality, negatively, especially when consumed late in the day or at night. It can make you fidgety and restless compromising your sleep quality and compromising the repair functions our body undergoes during sleep. 

‍Many people rely on too much coffee to give them that energy boost, but when having too much coffee empty stomach, it can erode the intestinal lining, it can create dysbiosis by compromising the growth of good bacteria, making the acidity worse. So if you have hormonal imbalance if you have hypothyroidism, I would highly recommend to not exceed 150 to 200 milligrams of caffeine in a day. This could mean replacing your coffee with a black tea, or limiting your coffee intake to three to four times in a week. 

Now, if you do love your caffeine, a lot and you can't give up your coffee. Then make sure you're not having an empty stomach, have a fruit such as banana hydrate yourself before having the coffee, and if you have hypothyroidism, then make sure you are upping your iodine intake by including foods such as eggs, yogurt, prunes and green beans to counter the effect of too much caffeine in your system.
